In 1969, the United States achieved a historic milestone when the Apollo 11 mission successfully landed humans on the Moon. Astronaut Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the lunar surface, while Michael Collins remained in orbit above them.
On July 20, Armstrong famously said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” The mission fulfilled a major goal of the Cold War space race between the United States and the Soviet Union.
The success of Apollo 11 proved that humans could travel to another world and return safely, opening the door for future space exploration and inspiring generations around the globe.
